Caitlin Stasey welcomes visitors to her feminist web project herself.com.
She hopes women find themselves in the stories and pictures of peers.
The actress who is known from the hit sitcom ‘Neighbours’ and who is currently a cast member of ‘Reign’ tells Clem Bastow: “It was really born out of hearing the incredible stories of the women around me, both socially and online. [..] With #yesallwomen and #freethenipple I was opened up to a whole world of women struggling for equality, demanding to be heard and finding empowerment through honesty and solidarity. I want to help demystify the female form, to assist in the erasure of coveting it, and to help celebrate the ever changing face of it. We consider a woman’s sexuality so linked to her physicality that for a woman to appear naked publicly is automatically an act of sex and not for herself. There’s also a very specific construct of woman we are all used to seeing, and while those women are no less women, I was so desperate to see different faces, different bodies.”
Herself.com features in-depth lengthy interviews with women who share their stories and opinions on being a woman and what that means in today’s society.
“Let us reclaim our bodies. Let us take them back from those who seek to profit from our insecurity.” – Caitlin Stasey
Why i’m impressed by Caitlin is not because she is the initiator of herself.com but because she isn’t careful in using her celebrity status to push for positive change. Along with 8 other women Caitlin bares it all and you can too.
